The AMC promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers, and trails of the Appalachian region. The Forestry Intern will work with the AMC Forest Manager and MWI (Maine Woods Initiative) team that oversee daily operations and long-term planning of the 114,00-acre MWI tract in Piscataquis County Maine. The Forestry Intern will be responsible for activities including field inventory sampling, harvest and precommercial layout, boundary line layout and maintenance, and assisting the MWI management team with tasks associated to operation of MWI. The Forestry Intern will need to be able to work well independently and in a group setting on a variety of projects in varying seasonal conditions.
This is a full-time seasonal position based at the MWI near Greenville, Maine, that includes on-site housing (rustic accommodations at an AMC lodge location) and staff meals for a small paycheck deduction. The summer forestry intern will work closely with MWI staff to coordinate logistics, and will be supervised by the AMC Forest Manager, with regular in-person meetings and direction from MWI staff. Past summer interns have used their work with AMC to develop projects associated with course requirements for graduation of their program.
Salary range: $19.00/hr
