Job summary

State of Ohio, through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), seeks an Equipment Operator 2 for Tar Hollow State Forest in Vinton County. The role requires a Class A CDL, outdoors work, and a strong focus on safety and teamwork to support forestry operations.

Initial pay starts at $22.29/hr with scheduled increases toward $24.63/hr, plus possible COLA and longevity pay after five years. Training includes Basic Firefighter Intro to Fire Behavior (S-130/S-190) during probation.

Qualifications

  • 9 months training or 9 months experience operating heavy motorized equipment (e.g., 7 ton dozer, 8-10 ton roller, concrete mixer, excavator, low-boy, vac-all or 10 ton sweeper, 10 ton tractor, 25,000 to 35,000 pound dump truck)
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required
  • Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy motorized equipment to complete construction and maintenance tasks
  • Support wildfire efforts including forest fire line construction, trails, culverts, roads and bridges
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on equipment and buildings/grounds
  • Assist with wildfire suppression and prescribed fire support
