Job summary

Georgia Forestry Commission is hiring a Wildland Firefighter/Ranger for the Thomasville area. The role involves responding to wildland fires, learning fire control duties with heavy equipment, and supporting forestry programs across the region.

Applicants must obtain a CDL within 12 weeks and pass pre-employment screenings. Position requires living within 45 minutes of the work location and entails rotating on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL license or learners permit with the ability to obtain a CDL within twelve (12) weeks of hire.
• Must pass pre-employment process including background investigation, medical evaluations, and physical fitness tests.
• Annual requirement to pass the Moderate Work Capacity Test (WCT) or Physical Agility Test (PAT).

Responsibilities

• Must live and/or relocate within 45 minutes of the assigned work location.
• Receive training in fire control duties using heavy equipment.
• Assist with maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment.
• Participate in forestry-related services and programs such as reforestation, community and school activities.
• Control and extinguish fires using manual and power equipment.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
• Inspect property for compliance with laws and regulations.
• Operate fire engines and hoselays.
• Prepare reports and assist with fire prevention campaigns.
