Forest Technician (Macon, GA)

Position Title: Forest Technician

Location: Macon, GA (Flexible)

Reports To: Account Manager

Established in 1970, Forest Resource Consultants, Inc. (FRC) provides timberland appraisal, forest management, inventory, GIS, data management, growth-and-yield modeling, and analytical services to institutional and private landowners throughout the southeastern United States. The firm is committed to ethical business practices and high-quality client service.

FRC is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Forest Technician position based in Macon, Georgia, supporting forest management operations throughout Georgia. The technician will assist account managers and other professional staff with forest management, timber inventory, timber sales, and related assignments. This role offers broad field experience across diverse client-owned properties while supporting FRC's delivery of high-quality, cost-effective forestry consulting services.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, dependable, comfortable working independently in outdoor environments, and committed to completing field assignments accurately and efficiently. Prior forestry experience is preferred but not required. Training support will be provided to candidates that need further development of field forestry skills.

Position Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher in forestry, forest technology, natural resources, or a related field preferred.
• While not required, previous forestry or related natural resources field experience is preferred; relevant training will be provided.
• Comfortable working independently outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions and terrain.
• Proficiency using basic computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Ability to learn and utilize forestry field equipment, GPS/GIS applications, electronic data collection systems, and other technology to complete work tasks.
• Valid driver's license and reliable four-wheel-drive transportation.

Job Responsibilities

• Willingness to travel primarily throughout central Georgia and, on occasion, elsewhere in the southeastern United States to support forest management operations and related projects.
• Periodically report to Macon office for project planning, meetings, training, and other business needs.
• Conduct timber inventory sampling using established cruise specifications and procedures.
• Assist with timber sale preparation, including marking timber sale boundaries, Streamside Management Zones (SMZs), and other designated areas as required.
• Monitor contract operations and scheduled forest management activities to evaluate progress and compliance with contract requirements.
• Conduct field inspections of forest management activities for compliance with applicable Best Management Practices (BMPs), governmental requirements, client objectives, and FRC procedures.
• Assist with inspections of reforestation and other silvicultural activities, including site preparation, planting, survival assessments, herbaceous weed control, and other treatments as required.
• Conduct timber sale inspections and document harvest progress, field conditions and observations.
• Collect GPS data and other field observations of property boundaries, stand conditions, roads, stream crossings, access points, and other property features.
• Effectively communicate field observations, potential issues, and changes in property or stand conditions to the appropriate FRC staff.
• Assist with the timely completion of special projects and other assignments.
• Promote a positive image of FRC with clients, associates, contractors, landowners, and the public.
