Job summary

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service, is seeking a candidate for forest-fire prevention, detection, suppression, and presuppression work. You will operate and maintain firefighting equipment, assist with landowners and industry, and contribute to public education on wildfire prevention.

Required qualifications include a Class A CDL within six months, willingness to travel, and residency within 30 miles of Glen Saint Mary HQ.

Qualifications

• Must be a high school graduate.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• No disqualifying felony or serious misdemeanor convictions as described in the posting.
• Submit fingerprint card with a processing fee.
• Maintain good moral character as determined by the division.
• Be in good physical condition per the division’s exam requirements.

Responsibilities

• Forestry work including prevention, detection, suppression and presuppression of wildfires and providing technical forestry services.
• Operate and maintain equipment used in wildfire suppression and related duties.
• Investigate wildfire causes, gather evidence, interview witnesses and issue notifications of violations where appropriate.
• Provide presuppression plowing, burning assistance and forestry education to landowners and industry representatives.
• Assist in public lands management activities, inventory and planting activities and wildfire protection efforts.
