Position Summary (Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary position.
Responsibilities include assisting in forestry labor, such as:
- Identifying and marking property boundaries
- Cruising timber in designated stands and compiling data for future timber sales
- Clearing trails of downed trees using various implements (tractors, brushhogs, gators, chainsaws, skidloaders)
- Maintaining Dunbar and Escanaba infrastructure
- Caring for newly planted chestnut orchards and Christmas tree plantations
- Establishing maple syrup demonstration sugarbush infrastructure, including installing lines, sap tanks, and lateral lines
- Assisting in constructing a post beam structure to cover a portable sawmill and pellet mill
- Fencing 110 acres to exclude deer
- Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Desired Qualifications
- Enrolled in a Forestry major or a closely related curriculum
- Self-motivated
- Willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Heavy equipment operation experience is a plus but not required
