Job description

Position Summary (Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary position.

Responsibilities include assisting in forestry labor, such as:

1. Identifying and marking property boundaries
2. Cruising timber in designated stands and compiling data for future timber sales
3. Clearing trails of downed trees using various implements (tractors, brushhogs, gators, chainsaws, skidloaders)
4. Maintaining Dunbar and Escanaba infrastructure
5. Caring for newly planted chestnut orchards and Christmas tree plantations
6. Establishing maple syrup demonstration sugarbush infrastructure, including installing lines, sap tanks, and lateral lines
7. Assisting in constructing a post beam structure to cover a portable sawmill and pellet mill
8. Fencing 110 acres to exclude deer
9. Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Desired Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Forestry major or a closely related curriculum
• Self-motivated
• Willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Heavy equipment operation experience is a plus but not required
