Job summary

Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) is seeking a Security Officer at the Delaware Psychiatric Center in a Level 5 security setting. You will monitor clients and staff, de-escalate conflicts, conduct rounds, and respond to emergencies while safeguarding state property and ensuring orderly operations.

Responsibilities include handling security systems, controlling access, conducting searches, and preparing logs and incident reports as needed.

Qualifications

• Six months experience in maintaining the security and safety of individuals and facilities.
• Knowledge of security systems and surveillance equipment.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Observes the behavior of clients and alerts nursing and other staff of changes.
• Responds to psychiatric emergencies and assists in detaining trespassers and searchings.
• Maintains control of persons and property in safety and order.
• Monitors safety of state property and staff/visitor locations at secure points.
• Answers internal emergency calls and relays information to authorities.
• Uses intercom and CCTV to identify and verify authorized access and grant entry.
• Responds to hazards, fires or other emergencies.
• Conducts rounds of buildings and perimeter to ensure devices are operable.
• Performs searches of clients, visitors, grounds for weapons or contraband.
• Provides information to forensic unit visitors and gives directions.
