Job summary

GBMC HealthCare seeks a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner-Adult/Adolescent to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for victims 13 years and older. You will conduct forensic examinations, document thoroughly, and coordinate referrals while working with ED staff, law enforcement and families.

Requirements include RN licensure in Maryland, CPR, and 2+ years in Women’s Health or Emergency Medicine; FNE-A preferred, with training provided for eligible RNs.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a registered nurse.
• Healthcare Provider CPR biennial
• Prefer current FNE-A certification but will provide clinical training for RN who completed the didactic course within the past 3 months or who is registered to attend an FNE-A course
• Minimum of two years of clinical experience, preferably in Women’s Health or Emergency Medicine.
• Interpersonal and verbal communication (oral and written) skills to educate and comfort patients and families, maintain documentation.
• Phlebotomy
• Excellent assessment skills

Responsibilities

• Completes evidentiary examination per established protocols and documents thoroughly.
• Communicates effectively with victims, families, ED staff, law enforcement and court officers.
• Recognizes victims needing immediate referrals to ED attending (psych treatment, injuries not disclosed during triage).
• Follows SAFE procedures for laboratory specimens and medications; documents variances.
• Provides appropriate referrals to victims and family members.
