Job summary

Wood seeks an experienced supervisor to lead mechanical field crews at our project sites. You will instruct crews, interpret blueprints, and coordinate materials, equipment, and safety practices to ensure timely, compliant completion of work.

The role requires ensuring quality, resolving on-site problems, and maintaining production records while upholding company policies and safety standards across all activities.

Qualifications

  • Seven years in the mechanical field, three as a Journeyman.
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling and cost control.
  • Ability to follow oral/written directions and read blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs crews on work activities and coordinates resources.
  • Interprets orders, sketches, and blueprints to guide activities.
  • Inspects quality to meet standards and specifications.
  • Assists workers and analyzes work-related problems.
  • Reviews materials for correctness and non-defect status.
  • Ensures equipment is in proper working condition and tracks time/production.
  • Enforces safety rules and company policies with workers.
  • Assesses worker hour needs and may estimate costs for contracts.
  • Plans work sequences to meet schedules using equipment and personnel.
  • Maintains safety and project rule compliance and communicates clearly.

Job description

  • Supervise and coordinate the activity of workers to ensure that work is done safely, correctly and timely.
Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Works with and instructs crews on work activities
  • Interprets written and/or oral orders, sketches and blueprints to coordinate activities of assigned workers, materials, equipment and tools
  • Inspects quality of all work to ensure company standards and project specifications are met
  • Assists workers in their performance of assigned duties
  • Analyzes and resolves work related problems
  • Reviews material received at jobsite to ensure it is correct and not defective
  • Checks equipment to ensure proper working conditions
  • Maintains time and tracks production
  • Interprets and enforces company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations company policy to employees
  • May study schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job
  • May make cost estimates for contracts
  • Establishes and adjusts work sequences to meet construction schedule, using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned personnel
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Be capable of listening and communicating with other supervision and employees
  • Be motivated and work safely and productively
  • Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required
Qualifications

Qualification and Requirements

  • Has worked in the mechanical field for typically seven years, three of which should be as a Journeyman in his/her craft
  • Have a detailed understanding of construction scheduling
  • Understand cost control and be able to implement successfully
  • Follow oral and written directions
  • Comprehend blueprints, sketches and plans
  • Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked
  • Plan work and activities
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
  • Accurately apply mathematical skills
  • Compare and see differences in size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects
  • Reading and writing skills
  • Recognize and report safety hazards
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolds
  • Work at heights without fear
  • See well (naturally or with corrections) and distinguish colors
