Job summary

Wood seeks a hands-on construction helper in Houston to analyze plans, interpret work orders, and determine required materials. You will measure with standard and metric rulers and perform basic construction tasks with the appropriate tools.

You will follow safety rules, assist craft professionals, select materials for specific trades, and use basic math for measurements. Compliance with OSHA and client requirements guides every task and site preparation.

Qualifications

• Must work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
• Must be able to work at heights without fear.
• Ability to compare and see differences in size, shape and form of lines, figures, objects.
• Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Analyzing and interpreting plans
• Interpreting work orders and determining the materials required
• Using equipment and tools effectively to perform basic construction tasks

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follow the rules of safe conduct always
• Employee must be able to use standard and/or metric rule to measure
• Demonstrate ability to use whole numbers, fractions, and decimals to add, subtract, multiply and divide and be able to accurately follow instructions
• Identify, recognize and demonstrate safe usage of power tools and hand tools appropriate for the job
• Demonstrate ability to work with a craft person
• Identify, recognize and select appropriate materials related to specific crafts
• Identify, explain, and perform crane hand signals
• Demonstrate ability to assist craft person
• Demonstrate ability to perform manual excavation
• Work using all the safety equipment that OSHA requires as well as what is required by the client
• Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, while following all waste handling guidelines
