Davey Tree Surgery Co. in Santa Cruz, CA is seeking a utility foreperson/foreman to lead a 2–5 person crew in pruning and removing trees for major electric utilities. This outdoor role emphasizes safety, planning, and efficient equipment use on job sites.

You will mentor crew members, ensure proper tool operation, and uphold standards across all tasks. Travel up to 25% is expected; CDL/ISA credentials are preferred where applicable.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Line clearance experience or related tree work.
• CDL Class A/B preferred (air brake restriction not allowed).
• ISA/TCIA certifications preferred where applicable.
• Pesticide licenses or certificates preferred if required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Lead a 2-5 person tree crew in pruning and removal work for major electric utilities.
• Prune treetops, trim or remove damaged trees, and clear broken limbs from lines and structures.
• Apply tree identification knowledge and industry pruning guidelines.
• Inspect job sites and plan/execute assigned tasks safely.
• Maintain and operate tools/equipment, including chainsaws and aerial lifts.
• Mentor and train new employees.

Job Duties

• Lead a 2-5 person tree crew in performing all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for major electric utility providers. Including but not limited to:
• Pruning treetops, repairing damaged trees by trimming or removal
• Removing broken limbs from utility lines, roofs, and other objects
• Application of tree identification knowledge and industry pruning guidelines
• Perform job-site inspections with proper planning and execution of assigned work and tasks
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including, chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more
• Mentor and train new employees

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Required: line clearance experience or other related tree work
• Required: Valid driver’s license
• Preferred: Commercial Driver’s License-Class A or B without air brake restriction
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
• Preferred: ISA Certified Arborist®, ISA Certified Tree Worker®, and/or TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional®
