Job summary

CHEER, INC. is seeking a part-time driver to transport meals from the main kitchen to senior centers on an established route in Sussex County. Responsibilities include delivery of meals and supplies, reporting incidents, and maintaining logs.

The role requires a valid license, Defensive Driving Certification, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Training will be provided, with some evenings and weekends possible.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing and proof of insurance.
  • Defensive Driving Certification required.
  • Some knowledge of auto mechanics and routine maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the local geographical area.
  • Ability to read and follow a map, verbal, and written directions.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug test, and criminal background check.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, get in and out of a vehicle, and walk stairs to deliver meals.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and operation manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Transport meals from the main kitchen to senior centers along an established route.
  • Deliver products and supplies; report incidents or accidents immediately.
  • Inspect and clean the vehicle daily and perform routine maintenance.
  • Deliver homebound meals when required and maintain mileage/logs.
  • Attend all trainings and safety meetings as required.
  • Collect donations and report if homebound clients are unavailable.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The primary focus of this position is to transport food and supplies from the main kitchen to the senior centers on an established route.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Transport meals by picking them up at the main kitchen and following an established route.
  • Responsible for the delivery of any product & supplies from CK to Centers. Responsible for reporting ANY incidents or accidents immediately.

Responsible for observing and following all applicable laws including posted speed limits, safe following distances, and defensive driving techniques as well as Agency policies.

Responsible for inspecting and cleaning the inside and the outside of the vehicle daily. Complete any repairs and perform regular maintenance. Responsible for delivering homebound meals when required following an established route.

Responsible for maintaining a daily log including mileage and maintenance. Complete all other reports as required by the Program Director on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

Attend all training and safety meetings as required.

  • Responsible for delivering homebound meals when required by following an established route. a.Collect and turn in donations received. b.Responsible for informing Outreach Worker, Center Director, or main office when homebound client is not home to accept a meal. c.Responsible for the timely return of unused meals to the main office. Meals are not to be left if the client is not home to accept them. 9.Responsible for picking up and delivering interoffice mailboxes to and from the main office to the Agency sites on the driver’s route. 10.All other related duties as assigned or required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Minimum requirements for this position are :

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license which remains in good standing and proof of insurance.
  • Must maintain Defensive Driving Certification.
  • Some knowledge of auto mechanics and routine maintenance is required.
  • Must possess knowledge of the geographical area.
  • Ability to read and follow a map, verbal, and written directions.
  • Must pass a pre-employment occupational physical, drug test, and criminal background check.
  • Ability to lift, tote, and haul 50 pounds maximum.
  • Ability to walk, get in and out of a vehicle, and walk upstairs to deliver meals is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such such safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one or small group situation to clients and other Agency employees.
PRIMARY WORK LOCATION:

Most duties and functions will be performed throughout Sussex Conty. Local travel to other CHEER locations is required to support programs and services.

WORK HOURS:

Various part time hours. Mostly mornings.
Extended work hours are periodically required to support programs and activities. Must be able to work occasional evening and weekend hours. Typical schedule is 2 weeks on & 1 week off

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Part Time (16–28 hrs./week) Non-Exempt
