Responsibilities
- Ensure meal service runs smoothly, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Assist with serving meals, ensuring dietary needs and portion guidelines are followed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming dining environment for all guests.
- Greet seniors warmly, answer questions, and address concerns with professionalism.
- Monitor guest feedback and help resolve issues to improve the dining experience.
- Support volunteers by guiding them on food safety, customer service, and task expectations.
- Promote a positive team environment by modeling excellent service, teamwork, and food-handling practices.
- Manage reservations and pre-ordered meals, ensuring accuracy and timely preparation.
- Check food temperatures, sanitation, practices, and service standards to meet health regulations.
- Assist with inventory, track food supplies, and notify leadership when orders are needed.
- Drive the company Meals on Wheels vehicle to deliver meals to elderly clients as needed.
- Load, organize, and transport meals safely while maintaining temperature and sanitation standards.
- Deliver meals with courtesy, patience, and respect, providing friendly wellness checks during each visit.
- Follow assigned routes and maintain accurate delivery logs.
- Report any concerns about client well‑being to the appropriate supervisor.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in food service, senior services, or community meal programs.
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience working in a senior center, cafeteria, community kitchen, dining hall, or similar food service environment.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Basic record-keeping and documentation skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience delivering meals, groceries, or food products to homes or community locations.
- Familiarity with Meals on Wheels operations or senior center environments.
- Strong customer service skills and a compassionate, patient demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt to changing needs, schedules, or delivery routes.
Physical & Environmental Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the kitchen and dining areas for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull food containers, meal carriers, and supplies weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Frequent reaching, grasping, and handling of food items, trays, and equipment.
- Ability to safely enter and exit a vehicle multiple times during delivery routes.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, including warm kitchen environments and outdoor weather conditions during deliveries.
- Ability to work in fast-paced meal service periods with frequent interruptions or shifting priorities.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, hot surfaces, and standard kitchen equipment.
- Ability to interact respectfully and patiently with seniors, including those who may have mobility, cognitive, or communication challenges.
- Ability to maintain focus, safety awareness, and professionalism while driving a company vehicle.
