Job summary

Southern Illinois Medical Services NFP is seeking a hospital food service worker to prepare meals to order, cater and batch cook for patients, visitors and staff. The role supports patient nutrition goals and requires adherence to safety and sanitation standards.

The position offers day, evening, overnight and weekend shifts with flexible scheduling may be available based on department needs. Experience in food handling and cash transactions is a plus, with certifications required within 30 days

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred
• Certifications in Food Service may be required within 30 days of hire (SJMH only)
• Food Service Handlers Certification (MHC, HH, HMC, Cancer Institute)
• Food Allergens Certification

Responsibilities

• Maintains clean work area following all safety and sanitation guidelines
• Enters and reports cash transactions
• Adjusts meals to meet the needs of the patient while following doctor's orders
• Keeps all work areas adequately stocked with food, condiments, beverages and service ware
• Washes dishes and utensils following Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines in all actions
• Delivers and retrieves trays using required patient identifiers in all interactions
• Attractively and accurately assembles patient trays
• Follows established portion control guidelines when serving food and beverages
• Responsible for service to retail operations
• Prepares meals using approved food sanitation practices
• Sweeps and mops floors using approved methods

Experience and Skills

Technical Experience: 6 months, preferred

Physical Activities

• Intermittent hand manipulation required
• Intermittent lifting and carrying of 50 pounds
• Required to stand for periods of up to 4 hours
