Job Summary
  1. Serves meals to patients in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.
  2. Consistently adheres to hospital regulatory requirements, including proper use of patient identifiers and hand hygiene practices.
  3. Instructs patients on meal ordering system following an established script.
  4. Delivers the correct menu and related inserts (diet compliant) to patients in a timely manner.
  5. Assists patients and/or family members in placing meal orders as needed.
  6. Assesses each patient’s ability to utilize the meal ordering system and follows up with appropriate staff if the patient is unable to participate.
  7. Delivers between-meal nourishments directly to patients.
  8. Expedites changes and/or diet-compliant substitutes per patient requests.
  9. For diabetic patients, informs nursing that tray has arrived and of the intent to deliver.
  10. Adheres to established infection control and isolation precaution policies.
  11. Retrieves completed meals from patients’ rooms in a timely manner.
  12. Records nutrient intake from meals for patients on physician-ordered calorie counts.
  13. Demonstrates speed, accuracy, and ability to work calmly under pressure.
  14. Acts as liaison between the Nutrition and Food Service Department, the patient, and the nursing units.
  15. Enters meal orders into CBORD.
  16. Addresses and resolves patient concerns regarding meal service, ensuring quality assurance.
  17. Maintains open communication with Call Center Representatives regarding patients' food requirements.
  18. Assumes role of patient advocate with respect to the Room Service meal delivery system.
  19. Completes nourishment kitchen stock sheets and faxes or hand delivers to the Call Center.
  20. Restocks food and non-food items according to established par levels, rotates perishables per departmental policy, checks and records refrigerator temperature.
  21. Ensures nourishment kitchens are kept clean and organized.
  22. Records calorie count information and provides it to Dietary Call Center personnel.
  23. Communicates with nursing and Food Service staff to improve meal service.
  24. Helps load and transport food trucks for patient tray service, as needed.
  25. Ensures that the food on the patient tray corresponds to the diet order and is listed on the tray ticket, following up on potential issues.
  26. Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • High school or vocational school graduate preferred; some college preferred.
  • 3-5 years of food service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of food service kitchens, including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to read, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and follow instructions.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with initiative and ownership of concerns.
  • Demonstrates commitment to team and patients through flexibility and strong work ethic.
  • Computer literacy with speed and accuracy; ability to learn new systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking ability.
  • Neat, professional appearance.
