Job description

Position Summary

This role involves manual and semi‑skilled routine work in the performance of food service duties. Employees apply skills and knowledge that are acquired through experience. Tasks include preparation and service of food and the cleaning and sanitation of equipment and facilities. The position reports to the 4‑H Dining Commons Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook food of good and safe quality and appealing presentation (50 %)
  • Serve food at the dining hall; set up serving lines and trays; interact with customers from young children to adults (35 %)
  • General dining hall clean‑up: washing dishes, pots, pans, equipment; sweeping, mopping, and removing trash; washing tables, chairs, and windows (15 %)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
  • Plan and organize routine work details and follow written and oral directions
  • Considerable knowledge of food preparation and service methods
  • Understand, follow, and adjust basic recipes
  • Basic safety and sanitation technique including HACCP principles
  • Basic knowledge of food hazards and precautionary measures
  • Knowledge of care and use of food‑service equipment and kitchen utensils
  • Good communication and customer‑service skills that contribute to a positive work environment
  • Flexible in hours worked and willing to work with cells and feet at kitchen heights
  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs and stand for prolonged periods
Physical Demands

Bend at the waist and knees, lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs., stand for prolonged periods, and work with arms and hands overhead. Work in and around heat of kitchen appliances in use, and in cold coolers/freezers when storing and retrieving stock.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience or education in lieu of the required minimum qualifications may be evaluated by Human Resources.

Additional Job Details

Driving is a responsibility of this position. The position is a trust position and involves direct interaction with children under 18 and secure access to the dining facility.
