Job Description

The NYSVETS home in Batavia is looking for a Food Service Worker 2.

Hours: Swing Shift 5:30AM-2 PM and/or 11:15AM -7:45 PM.

Schedule: Weekends required - 2 weekends on / 2 weekends off.

Brief Description of Class Series

Food Service Workers perform activities related to food preparation and service in State facilities, including food prep, serving, sanitation, and ordering supplies.

Food Service Worker 2: Reports to a higher-level food service worker, supervises Food Service Workers 1, and may supervise incarcerated individuals or residents. Performs complex food prep such as preparing and cooking meats, fish, vegetables, and desserts.

Illustrative Tasks

• Cleans and sanitizes refrigerators, equipment, and kitchen areas.
• Assists with deliveries and stores supplies, checks product temperatures.
• Transports food and supplies, prepares simple foods like sandwiches and eggs.

Performs food service tasks such as setting tables, serving food, ensuring dietary needs, and cleaning dining areas.

• Supervises subordinate staff, plans coverage, provides training, and evaluates performance.
• Prepares reports, oversees supply storage, and may cook entire meals in smaller settings.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in food prep or service, including responsibility for food and supply ordering. Formal culinary or food service training may credit towards experience (up to 2 years for an associate degree).

• Accredited programs include those recognized by ACFEFAC, the American Culinary Federation, or ACCSCT.
