Summary
The Food Service Worker is responsible for supporting center food services by purchasing food and related supplies; preparing meals and snacks; cleaning and maintaining food services areas of the HS and EHS Center.

Position Expected Hours: (Refer to the Supervisor or Nutrition Coordinator.)

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and abilities required. Must be at least 18 years of age as required by the TDFPS Minimum Standards for Child-Care Centers. Must be at least 18 years of age for persons driving a vehicle on agency business, and at least 25 years of age if required to transport children and families served by the agency, as required by agency automobile insurance. High School Diploma or GED; and six months related experience. Class C Driving is required for this position. Employees may need to provide private transportation; reimbursement for mileage is provided. Must pass a criminal history check through TDFPS. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

Essential Duties

1. Prepare meals and snacks following established menus and guidelines.
2. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas.
3. Serve meals and snacks.
4. Wash and sanitize dishes, tools, and utensils.
5. Maintain food supplies and equipment.
6. Complete related records and accounts.
7. Shop for groceries and supplies weekly, including transportation and unloading.
8. Support and participate in family style meal services, demonstrating age-appropriate interactions with children.
9. Support classroom policies and interact positively with children, families, and staff.
10. Participate in center meetings and activities.
11. Ensure confidentiality of agency and family information.
12. Work effectively with diverse backgrounds and needs, solving problems as they arise.
13. Report to work punctually, perform duties safely and professionally, and maintain a positive attitude.
14. Engage in professional development opportunities as feasible.
15. Support the agency’s image and perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position generally does not supervise others but may oversee an Assistant Cook.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This role requires physical activity including lifting up to 45 pounds, standing, walking, and exposure to heat and cleaning chemicals. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
