Job summary

Union School District 81 in Joliet, IL is seeking a Part Time Food Service Worker to support daily meal production in a school kitchen serving students.

You will prepare ingredients, assemble meals, serve students, label and store products, and maintain a clean, safe work environment while following food safety guidelines.

The ideal candidate is reliable, energetic, able to work well in a team, and willing to obtain Serve Safe certification if needed; shifts run Monday through Friday, 6 am–2 pm.

Qualifications

• Experience in food service environments preferred but not required.
• Ability to read, speak and comprehend English.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Serve Safe certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
• Must pass federal background check.

Responsibilities

• Prepare fruits, vegetables, and other menu items according to recipes and schedules.
• Wash, cut, portion, cook, and package food for distribution.
• Assist with meal assembly and service to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Label, date, and store food following safety guidelines.
• Operate kitchen equipment including ovens and steam tables.
• Maintain clean and organized workstations throughout the shift.
• Follow HACCP procedures and document food temperatures as required.
• Assist with receiving deliveries and stocking inventory using FIFO.

Position Summary

The food service worker supports daily food production operations in a school kitchen that serves students

The position is responsible for preparing ingredients, assembling food items, serving students meals, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

The ideal candidate is reliable, energetic, and able to work efficiently as part of a team to meet daily production goals.
No Nights, weekends, or holidays. Mon-Friday 6 am-2pm

Must pass Federal Background Check

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Prepare fruits, vegetables, and other menu items according to standardized recipes and meal schedules
• Wash, cut, portion, cook, and package food products for distribution
• Assist with meal assembly and service to ensure accuracy and quality standards are met
• Label, date, and store food products following food safety guidelines
• Operate kitchen equipment including ovens, steam tables, and knives
• Maintain clean and organized workstations throughout the shift.
• Follow HAACP procedures and document food temperatures as required
• Assist with receiving deliveries and stocking inventory using FIFO procedures
• Support cooks with food preparation and other duties as assigned
• Work efficiently to meet production deadlines
• Adhere to all company, local, state, and federal food safety and sanitation guidelines

• Previous food service, restaurant, cafeteria experience preferred but not required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
