Job description

Base pay range

$48,000.00/yr - $57,000.00/yr

Schedule

Rotating schedule 7:30am – 3:30pm. In the absence of the Assistant Director, will be required to work 5:30am- 1:30pm.

Summary

Supervise kitchen and tray line staff in food preparation and service. Ensure food safety and cleanliness following HACCP and Health Department standards. Oversee food service for patients and the cafeteria. Maintain temperature logs and portion controls. Communicate with cafeteria and chef managers regarding food quality. Function as Manager in charge during weekends and opening/closing shifts. Support and participate in implementing new food service programs. Enforce policies, including Clean as You Go and standard hygiene protocols. Perform clerical duties in the diet office.

Work Performed
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of kitchen staff preparing and cooking foods for hospital patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Coordinate food service for patients and cafeteria.
  • Maintain safe and sanitary work areas.
  • Supervise Food Service employees in main kitchen and tray line.
  • Communicate with cafeteria and chef managers regarding food quality and temperature.
  • Assist managers in implementing new programs; plan and participate as needed.
  • Maintain temperature logs using HACCP methods.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures; recommend disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Enforce Clean as You Go policy/processes.
  • Ensure food handling meets or exceeds health standards.
  • Maintain proper portion controls.
Functions as Manager in Charge

  • Opening and closing shifts

Demonstrate effective communication with diverse patient populations. Practice infection control and confidentiality standards. Maintain professional appearance and punctuality. Complete mandatory training and embody Burke’s C.A.R.E.S. values. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Minimum two years supervisory experience in a kitchen.
  • A.A.S. degree in Food Service Management or completion of 120-hour Food Service Supervisor course.
  • Serve Safe Manager Certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food handling, recipes, and tray line operations.
  • Fluent in English reading and writing.
  • Effective communication skills across staff levels.
  • Ability to stand for long periods in a hot, noisy kitchen.
  • Flexible schedule, including 1-2 weekends per month.
