Job summary

The Transition House, Inc. in Tarpon Springs, FL seeks a Food Service Specialist to prepare, cook, and serve meals for residents in a re-entry program. You will maintain kitchen cleanliness, proper food handling, and safe equipment use in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include setting up service areas, cooking for 60–150 people, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Must obtain ServSafe within 2 weeks and have a valid Florida driver’s license.

• Must pass a background check and be approved by the Florida Department of Corrections
• ServSafe Certification within 2 weeks of training

• Prepare and serve hot and cold items per safety standards.
• Replenish serving stations and maintain supplies.

• Monitor food quality and report spoilage or equipment issues.
• Follow safety and sanitation procedures at all times.
• Assist with other food service duties as assigned.

Position Overview: The Food Service Specialist performs a wide range of duties related to preparing, cooking, and serving food and beverages in a re-entry program. This role also supports kitchen cleanliness, sanitation, food service setup, and safe handling of equipment and supplies.

Required Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED

Experience

• Less than high school; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Must pass a background check and be approved for the position by the Florida Department of Corrections

Licenses / Certifications

• Must have or obtain within 2 weeks of training the ServSafe Certification.
• Valid Florida driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in institutional, community-based, or high-volume food service settings
• Experience supporting safe food handling and sanitation procedures

This position operates within a secure residential program environment and involves:

This position works in a food service environment and may involve exposure to heat, cold, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noise. The role requires following basic safety precautions and maintaining sanitary work conditions.

Schedule Expectations

• Nights, weekends, and holidays required
• Overtime may be available based on operational needs
• Tuesday through Thursday 5 am to 2 pm, Friday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
