Job summary

Lamphere Schools is seeking a dependable Food Service Kitchen Helper at Hiller Elementary to assist with preparing and serving nutritious meals to students and staff. This role supports daily kitchen operations through food preparation, meal service, cashiering, cleaning, and maintaining a sanitary kitchen.

The position is 10.5 months, 5 hours per day (Mon-Fri 8:30am-1:30pm) and contracted through EduStaff with a pay rate of $15.25 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain).
• Ability to pass a required physical examination.
• Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
• Basic computer and cash handling skills.
• Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing, portioning, and serving breakfast and lunch.
• Set up, stock, replenish, and clean serving lines and kitchen work areas.
• Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system and assist with cash handling.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and HACCP procedures.
• Take and record required food and equipment temperatures.
• Wash dishes and maintain a clean kitchen environment.
• Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
• Assist with catering, special events, and other duties as assigned.

This position is contracted through EduStaff. Employment, payroll, and eligibility for any available benefits are administered by EduStaff.

Employment is contingent upon disclosure in accordance with PA-189. Must demonstrate reliability and punctuality, with a strong record of consistent attendance. All staff members are expected to maintain a professional and respectful attitude toward one another at all times.

Selected candidates will be required to have a district paid fingerprint criminal history check processed through the Michigan State Police and FBI.
