About This Position
Hours: Monday - Friday 9 am - 2 pm
The Food Service Attendant will receive prepared foods from the central kitchen and assist or clean up according to company policies. This position involves limited paperwork but requires effective communication with management.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Put on hair restraint, wash hands, wear clean clothes and apron.
- Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures: exits, fire extinguisher, meeting places, phones, and emergency contacts.
- Prepare bleach solution, sanitize work areas including kitchen counters and dining tables.
- Check and record refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily.
- Review the menu, portion control guides, and sign-in sheets for the day.
- Locate utensils for the meal.
- Set out donation box and envelopes, have registration and reservation sheets accessible.
- Prepare coffee based on reservations, ensure extra is available for walk-ins or seniors requesting more.
- Arrange tables according to reservations, change decor seasonally if possible.
- Decorate dining area for monthly holiday meals when possible.
- Verify food delivery, check for shortages or missing items, and notify the central kitchen if needed.
- Check food temperatures before service, record, and store accordingly.
- Set out perishable items like milk and desserts 15 minutes before serving.
- Set up dishwashing station if applicable.
- Ensure all staff and volunteers wash hands, wear hair restraints and gloves during food handling.
- Serve meals at designated times, prioritize seniors with special needs.
- Record leftovers, offer seconds, and sit with seniors for feedback.
- Count contributions with a volunteer, record on site report, and secure funds appropriately.
- Dispose of leftover foods properly.
- Wash and sanitize all meal service items, air dry, store supplies securely.
- Check and replenish supplies weekly, avoid over-ordering.
- Call meal count into the kitchen by 1:00 p.m.
- Perform final cleanup and ensure all is stored properly.
- Perform other duties as needed.
What You'll Need
- High school diploma or equivalent, at least 18 years old.
- Ability to lift 10-15 lbs.
- Knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work well with the elderly.
- Dependable, physically capable of lifting and standing for long periods.
- Ability to cooperate with others and supervise volunteers if required.
- Ability to keep simple records and maintain confidentiality.
