Job summary

Washington County Public Schools is seeking a Food Service Assistant for Salem Avenue Elementary School (Western Heights Middle Base Kitchen). This 5.75-hour, 10-month position runs 7:15 am–1:45 pm with a 45-minute break, reporting to the Assistant Supervisor of Food and Nutrition Services.

Responsibilities include helping prepare food, serving meals, cleaning, maintaining safety standards, and operating kitchen equipment.

Qualifications

• Ability to work cooperatively with others and follow directions.
• Must obtain Serv-Safe Certification within 1 year of employment.
• Willingness to be assigned at any site within the base operation.
• Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 20 lbs; tolerate noise, odors, and temperature variations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and/or assist in preparing food as assigned.
• Complete clean-up and dishwashing duties as assigned.
• Report food supply needs and problems to the Site Supervisor.
• Serve food to students and adults using portion control standards.
• Maintain a clean work area and safe equipment operation.
• Attend mandatory training and adhere to health and safety policies.
• Support kitchen operations and accommodate dietary needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Ability to work cooperatively with others, accept direction, assume leadership responsibility and complete tasks as assigned.
• Serv-Safe Certification or the ability to obtain Serv-Safe Food Handler Certification within 1 year of employment and to keep current throughout employment.

• Ability to meet physical requirements:
• prolonged standing;

Preferred Qualifications

• Food Service experience.
• Knowledge of food service equipment; appropriate operations, cleaning, and sanitizing.
• Knowledge or ability to learn quantity cooking.
• Ability to communicate effectively with members of the food service staff, school staff, students and the community.
• Ability to use computer systems to perform work functions.

Role Responsibilities
