The Role:

The Food Safety Specialist ensures a sustainable, safe, clean, and functional environment in the CookUnity Commissary.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor food production and ensure all Chefs are adhering to food safety regulations
  • Perform critical checks including refrigeration, chemical concentration, and temperature checks
  • Communicate kitchen rules to Chefs as needed—gloves, hairnets, proper hand washing, cleaning of equipment, sanitizing of prep stations, etc.
  • Ensure all items in coolers and freezers are appropriately labeled, including Chef Name, Product Name, and Date
  • Conduct daily facility compliance walks and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Work closely with departments such as Kitchen Operations, Supply Chain, and Maintenance to address food safety and quality issues
  • Prepare the facility for inspections by local regulators or third-party auditors
  • Maintain cooler and fridge temperatures at 41°F or lower and ensure doors remain closed
  • Perform weekly thermometer calibrations for Chefs and Food Safety team
  • Train Chefs and staff on food safety and sanitation topics collaboratively
  • Perform facility and departmental audits
  • Collect and report data on cooler function and sanitary transport to operations and facilities teams

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience working in a high-compliance food processing facility (USDA, FDA)
  • Positive attitude and commitment to doing the right thing
  • Experience working in a fast-paced team environment
  • Excellent communication skills and professionalism with diverse partners and stakeholders
  • Ability to build relationships and explain food safety concepts clearly
  • Ability to work independently and complete duties without supervision
  • Proficiency with G Suite/Google Workspace
  • Team-oriented with a positive, collaborative mindset
  • Availability to work 30-40 hours per week
  • Flexible availability for shifts at 6:00 AM–2:00 PM, 2:00 PM–10:00 PM, or 10:00 PM–6:00 AM
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required

Compensation: Final pay rates depend on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal and market considerations. Pay range: $20–$26 USD per hour.
