Job summary

The Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains is seeking a Food Operations Director to lead our five-club food program and three early childhood sites. You will supervise kitchen staff, ensure meals meet CACFP and USDA meal patterns, and manage food-related grants while collaborating with program teams to make nutrition engaging for youth.

You will travel between Brookings and partner sites, oversee purchasing, safety, and licensing compliance, and support events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years in food service, kitchen management, or institutional/school programs.
• 1+ year supervising staff.
• ServSafe Manager certification or ability to earn it within 90 days of hire.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Strong organization and communication skills.
• Experience with CACFP/NSLP/USDA meal patterns (preferred).
• Grant reporting experience (preferred).
• Culinary, nutrition, or dietetics training (preferred).
• Experience working with youth (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise kitchen staff at all sites, with hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and performance input.
• Lead menus for snacks, lunches, and suppers meeting USDA and CACFP meal pattern requirements.
• Coordinate meal modifications for allergies and dietary needs; ensure inclusive, safe mealtime environments.
• Oversee food purchasing, inventory, deliveries, and storage across sites; conduct site visits and kitchen audits.
• Ensure compliance with SD Department of Health, child care licensing, and CACFP standards; maintain records.
• Lead tracking, documentation, and reporting for food-related grants; partner on nutrition education activities.
• Oversee safety policies and required trainings; ensure youth safety and supervision.
