Job summary

S.C. Department of Public Health’s Food Microbiology Laboratory seeks a laboratory professional to lead and participate in ISO 17025-compliant testing under the LFFM Grant, including maintaining reagent inventories and documentation.

Responsibilities include high‑complexity molecular testing, surveillance sample testing, and reporting to the FDA. The role may involve travel and may offer hybrid work after 12 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related medical or scientific discipline or an associate degree with journey-level experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead activities for the Laboratory Flexible Funding Model (LFFM) Grant in the Food Microbiology Laboratory.
• Develop and improve the ISO manual and ensure ISO 17025 compliance with up-to-date documentation and reagent inventories.
• Perform testing of surveillance samples for human food, animal feed, and during outbreaks using high-complexity molecular methods and standard cultural techniques.
• Test NARMS retail meat and seafood samples as needed and report results to FDA to fulfill grant reporting requirements.
• Travel as requested and respond during emergencies outside normal hours as directed.
