Job summary

State of South Carolina's Department of Public Health seeks skilled laboratory personnel for the Food Microbiology Laboratory. You will contribute to ISO 17025 compliance, manage reagent inventories, and maintain meticulous documentation.

You will perform high-complexity molecular testing and cultural methods on surveillance samples, including NARMS meat and seafood as needed. Travel and emergencies may arise, with benefits for temporary grant roles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related medical or scientific discipline or an associate degree or equivalent training.
• An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
• Applicants may upload unofficial transcripts; an official copy is required prior to hiring.
• Recognized institutions by CHEA are acceptable.
• Knowledge to perform highly complex laboratory tests and understand ISO concepts is expected.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve the laboratory ISO manual and ensure ISO 17025 compliance.
• Maintain reagent inventories and ensure accurate documentation per ISO standards.
• Perform testing of surveillance samples for human food, animal feed, and during outbreaks.
• Test NARMS retail meat and seafood samples as needed and report results to FDA.
• Travel may be required; respond to emergencies outside normal hours.
