Job summary

The New York City Law Department seeks admitted attorneys for its Privacy and Records Unit to support FOIL and the Identifying Information Law compliance. You will handle requests, locate and review documents, and advise staff on disclosure decisions and privacy practices. You will also assist with FOIL appeals and prepare agency reports.

This role offers opportunities to develop advisory and compliance skills and to serve the public through a focused, impactful practice within City government.

Qualifications

• Graduates of an ABA approved law school admitted and in good standing with the New York State Bar.
• At least one year of legal experience after law school graduation.
• Excellent judgment, strong research and legal analysis abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with FOIL compliance and interpretation of requests to identify information.
• Receive, track, locate, and review documents responsive to FOIL requests.
• Advise City staff on FOIL practice, privacy issues and relevant updates.
• Assist with privacy and identifying information law compliance and training.
• Support Records Appeals Officer with FOIL appeal determinations.
