Job summary

The New York City Law Department invites applications from admitted attorneys to join the Privacy and Records Unit. Reporting to the Chief of Privacy and Records Officer, the attorney will assist with FOIL and Identifying Information Law compliance, manage FOIL requests, and advise staff on privacy issues across the Department.

Qualifications

• Graduates of an ABA approved law school and admitted in good standing with the NYS Bar.
• Strong judgment, organizational skills, and research/analysis abilities; able to advise senior attorneys.

Responsibilities

• Receive, track, and interpret FOIL requests; work with staff to locate and review documents responsive to requests.
• Analyze disclosure/ withholding determinations and issue final determinations to requesters.
• Assist FOIL Appeals Officer with appeal determinations and advise city clients on FOIL and privacy matters.
• Assist in Identifying Information Law compliance, quarterly reporting, and drafting biennial Agency Reports.
• Investigate privacy incidents within the Department or by contractors.
