Job summary

DarkStar Intelligence seeks a FOIA Redaction Analyst to support an IC customer onsite in McLean, VA. You will redact PII and confidential data from sensitive documents per FOIA and privacy laws, prepare release files, and maintain case files.

Role requires active TS/SCI with Polygraph, strong attention to detail, and experience handling government records. You will develop SOPs and support compliance reporting while ensuring timely, accurate work.

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, or 9+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting FOIA, PA, MDR, and/or ADR case processing.
  • Strong ability to review sensitive government records and ensure compliance with disclosure, privacy, and classification requirements.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with a proven ability to produce error-free documents.
  • Proficiency with case management tools; IC/ODNI systems a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to document actions accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to FOIA/PA/EO requests for release of classified/sensitive information.
  • Handle complex cases including FOIA litigation and appeals.
  • Conduct MDR/ADR per EO 13526.
  • Coordinate taskings and document collection across IC components and external agencies.
  • Validate adequacy of record searches and document facts.
  • Review case files to ensure actions are complete and documented.
  • Monitor progress and deadlines; coordinate with government leads.
  • Provide high quality, error-free work requiring minimal edits.
  • Submit signed final letters and close cases within 3 business days of approval.
  • Track case status using government tools.
  • Provide inputs to annual compliance reports as directed by Government.
  • Ensure ODNI information cleared for public release is available for inspection.

Description

DarkStar Intelligence is seeking a FOIA Redaction Analyst to support an IC customer onsite in McLean, VA. This role is responsible for reviewing and redacting personally identifiable information, confidential data, and classified information from sensitive documents in accordance with FOIA, the Privacy Act, Executive Order 13526, and other federal regulations. The position includes conducting detailed line by line document reviews, preparing files for release, maintaining case files, developing SOPs, and supporting compliance reporting efforts. Candidates must have experience handling sensitive U.S. Government records, proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro or similar redaction software, strong attention to detail, and an active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.



Responsibilities


  • Respond to public and official requests for review and release of classified and/or sensitive customer information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Privacy Act (PA), Executive Order (EO) 13526 (Classified National Security Information), and appropriate IC policies and procedures.

  • Respond to complex cases, such as those including FOIA litigation and FOIA appeals, demonstrating extensive knowledge of the FOIA and PA exemptions and administrative requirements.

  • Conduct Mandatory Declassification Review (MDR) and Automatic Declassification Review (ADR) in accordance with EO 13526.

  • Coordinate taskings, searches, and document collection activities across internal IC agency components and external government agencies.

  • Validate adequacy of record searches and ensure all relevant facts are accurately captured in case documentation.

  • Conduct thorough review of case files to ensure all required actions such as search confirmations, consultations, document reviews, and correspondence, are complete and properly documented.

  • Monitor case progress to ensure compliance with all deadlines and coordinate workflow with government leads and other stakeholders.

  • Provide high quality, grammatically error free work requiring minimal government editing.

  • Submit signed final response letters to requesters and close cases within three business days of government approval.

  • Track and update the status of cases in a timely and accurate manner using customer tools as identified by the Government.

  • Provide inputs to annual compliance reports as directed by the Government.

  • In accordance with applicable law and at Government direction, ensure that the ODNI information which has been cleared for public release is available for public inspection and/or copying/downloading.



Requirements


  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, or 9+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting FOIA, PA, MDR, and/or ADR case processing, including coordination, documentation, drafting correspondence, and interacting with requesters.

  • Strong ability to review sensitive government records and ensure compliance with disclosure, privacy, and classification requirements.

  • Excellent written communication skills, with a proven ability to produce error-free, professionally formatted documents.

  • Proficiency with case management tools and document-handling systems; experience with IC or ODNI systems is a plus.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to accurately document case actions



Desired Skills


  • Experience with FOIA case management within the Intelligence Community.

  • Familiarity with FOIA records tracking systems.

  • Background in legal, paralegal, compliance, or records management disciplines.

  • Prior experience drafting official correspondence and coordinating with multiple government entities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.



Salary Range

$100,000 - $130,000 per year. This pay range is a general guideline and not a guarantee of specific compensation or salary. When extending an offer, DarkStar Intelligence considers various factors, including (but not limited to) the job's responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, market data alignment, applicable bargaining agreements (if any), and other relevant laws.
