Job summary

Firefly Aerospace is seeking a Fluids Ground Support Equipment (FGSE) Design Engineer to develop launch-site fluid systems and support equipment across facilities.

You will design P&IDs, size cryogenic piping, and lead fabrication, testing, and on-site support while coordinating with technicians and reviewers. Travel up to 30% is required; candidates should bring a strong fluid, thermodynamics background and multi-disciplinary leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related discipline
• Strong understanding of fluids, heat transfer, and thermodynamics
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure, fast paced environment
• Self-motivation and ownership of large complex systems
• Ability to balance detailed design with project management tasks (budgeting, scheduling)
• Strong communication and leadership in multidisciplinary teams
• 2+ years of experience with fluid systems, pneumatics, hydraulics or HVAC in design, assembly, test, or operations
• Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time

Responsibilities

• Design ground fluid systems: P&IDs, sizing calculations for cryogenic, multiphase, compressible/incompressible fluids
• Manage fabrication, installation, checkout, and operation of systems
• Coordinate with GSE technician team; provide P&IDs and drawings
• Generate drawings and work instructions; plan upcoming work
• Provide on-ground support and direction to build teams
• Ensure conformance to design policies, procedures, and specs
• Maintain knowledge of codes and standards (ASME B31.1/31.3, ANSI, API, NFPA)
• Lead design reviews and participate in readiness reviews
• Perform activation testing and develop test procedures with safety focus
• Maintain and upgrade fluid systems; develop preventive maintenance plans
• Troubleshoot nonconformances and follow dispositions
• Travel to test/launch sites as needed
