Position Highlights:

  • Under supervision of an Environmental Services Supervisor, the Floor Maintenance Technician cleans and maintains various floor types, including dust mopping, auto scrubbing, burnishing, and buffing.
  • This role supports the department in maintaining a clean environment for patients and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain hard surfaces: dust/damp mopping, scrubbing, buffing, waxing
  • Operate cleaning machines: auto-scrubbers, battery burnishers, buffers, extractors, wet vacuums
  • Perform high-touch surface disinfection and cleaning
  • Clean and disinfect clinical and non-clinical areas, including patient rooms, exam rooms, nurse stations, offices, labs, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, corridors, external grounds, etc.
  • Handle and dispose of medical waste and sharps following safety protocols
  • Use appropriate chemicals, tools, and equipment for each task
  • Clean spills involving blood or infectious materials per infection control procedures
  • Occasionally travel to off-site locations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Policies and Procedures:

  • Follow departmental and regulatory standards for cleaning, including safety and infection control measures
  • Perform all functions following safety protocols, including hand hygiene and PPE use
  • Adhere to instructions from Environmental Services management

Training and Competencies:

Complete required departmental education and training to demonstrate competency.

Communication:

Represent the department professionally, maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, staff, and colleagues, and report maintenance issues to supervisors.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 6 months of experience in healthcare, environmental services, customer service, or hospitality
  • 6 months of floor tech experience
  • Additional 6 months of healthcare/hospitality/customer service experience may substitute for the diploma/GED
  • Completion of healthcare environmental services training from MacDonald Training Center may also be considered in lieu of experience and diploma
  • Ability to follow instructions in English, especially in emergencies
