Job summary

Johns Hopkins University seeks a Custodian Floor Tech to perform a wide range of floor care and cleaning duties on campus, including offices, laboratories, classrooms, and exterior areas. The role involves operating auto-scrubbers, burnishers, buffers, and other machines, cleaning carpets and surfaces, and moving furniture as needed.

The position is a Bargaining Unit role with starting pay at $18.50 per hour, increasing to $21.50 after 12 months, and requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 1+ year of experience preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to read and write labels on cleaning materials and solutions.
• Ability to operate large powered floor cleaning equipment.
• Ability to interact respectfully with staff, faculty, and visitors.
• Ability to lift/carry or move up to 50 lbs; stand and walk for extended periods.
• Valid Driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate floor equipment (auto-scrubbers, burnishers, buffers, carpet extractors) multiple days per week.
• Clean large areas using automated floor cleaning equipment per schedule.
• Clean carpets, upholstery, and various surfaces.
• Ensure areas/spaces are cleaned with required cleaners and disinfectants.
• Inspect building interiors and exteriors for service issues and report to supervisor.
• Move furniture and equipment; assist with setup for meetings and events.
• Transport biohazard containers to designated areas.
• Follow safety precautions and maintain clean work areas.
