Job summary

City of Richmond, VA, is seeking a Maintenance Specialist - Floodwall to perform floodwall maintenance, gate inspections, pumping station operations, and grass cutting along the floodwall. The incumbent will operate mowing equipment and maintain gates and closures to ensure readiness for flood events on the James River.

Responsibilities include using the MainSaver program, completing work orders, and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of college preferred.
• Three years of experience directly related to assignment.
• An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.

Responsibilities

• Operate mowing equipment.
• Maintain sluice gate, flap gates, closures and levees.
• Utilize MainSaver maintenance computerized program.
• Perform mandatory Floodwall inspections required by the Army Corps of Engineers.
• Inspect and maintain gates and closures along the floodwall system.
• Ensure pumping stations are ready for emergency operation.
• Cut vegetation on slopes/leves using mowing equipment.
• Spray vegetation with commercial spraying equipment.
• Work in confined spaces.
• Inspect and maintain equipment and complete work orders.
