Overview
The Flood Team Lead is a senior‑level role responsible for managing complex flood insurance compliance cases, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to strategic initiatives within the flood operations team. This position requires expert‑level knowledge of NFIP and private flood insurance regulations, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead process improvements and support audit readiness.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Complex Flood Insurance Oversight – 30% Review and resolve escalated or high‑risk flood insurance cases; interpret advanced policy documentation including endorsements and elevation certificates; ensure compliance with NFIP, private insurance, and lender‑specific standards; serve as the initial reviewer for coverage adequacy and documentation accuracy.
- Team Leadership & Mentoring – 20% Provide guidance and support to Flood Specialists I and II; lead training sessions and assist in onboarding new team members; offer performance feedback and support skill development; act as a resource for technical and procedural questions.
- Lender Relationship Management – 15% Maintain strong working relationships with insurance agents and lender partners; handle complex outbound and inbound communications regarding policy issues; resolve disputes and ensure timely documentation delivery; represent the flood operations team in cross‑functional meetings.
- Compliance Strategy & Audit Support – 15% Lead preparation for internal and external audits; monitor regulatory changes and update procedures accordingly; collaborate with compliance and legal teams to ensure readiness and accuracy; develop and maintain documentation for regulatory reporting.
- Process Improvement & Other Duties Assigned – 20% Identify inefficiencies and recommend workflow enhancements; contribute to SOP development and system optimization; participate in cross‑functional initiatives to improve flood operations; support departmental goals and strategic initiatives; assist with overflow work and special projects; provide input on technology and system enhancements.
Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications & KSA)
- High school diploma or GED (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in flood insurance operations, loan servicing, or insurance compliance.
- 5‑7 years of leadership experience.
- Proven expertise in NFIP and private flood insurance policy review and regulatory interpretation.
- Experience mentoring or leading teams in a flood operations environment.
- Strong understanding of audit processes, force‑placement procedures, and compliance strategy.
- Excellent communication skills with experience managing agent and lender relationships.
- Preferred: Certification such as Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) or equivalent.
