  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and orderly environment for students.
  • Support teachers with basic classroom organization and preparation.
  • Assist with occasional administrative or operational tasks related to the school day.
  • Respond flexibly to changing needs and priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Lucy School is an independent, non-sectarian PreK-8 school in Middletown, Maryland, where the arts, nature, and meaningful relationships are central to how children learn. We believe children learn best when they are known, challenged, supported, and given opportunities to explore their interests through hands-on experiences.

Position Overview

Lucy School is exploring the addition of a part-time Floater to provide flexible support throughout the school day. This position is intentionally designed to be adaptable, with the specific schedule and responsibilities determined by the needs of the school.

The Floater may be asked to support different classrooms, age groups, and programs from day-to-day. Responsibilities could include covering for teachers, assisting in classrooms, supervising students during transitions, supporting recess and lunch, helping with arrival and dismissal, and providing additional adult support when needed.

This position would be particularly well-suited to someone who enjoys working with children, is comfortable with variety, and can step into different situations with a positive and helpful attitude.

Potential Responsibilities

Schedule

This is a part-time, tentative position. The exact schedule and number of hours will depend on the school's staffing needs and will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate.

The position may involve regularly scheduled days and/or additional hours when coverage is needed. Flexibility is highly valued.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and responsibilities.
