Floater (Part-time), Riverdale YM-YWHA

Riverdale Y is a community and cultural center located in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx. We provide educational, recreational, cultural, and wellness programming for children and adults of all ages.

SCOPE

The Floater will be part of the Early Childhood Center team that includes six classrooms and 18 teachers, serving 89 children.

Part Time Floater Positions

We have several part time floater positions available working with two, three and four year olds. The hours for this position are Monday to Thursday 3:00 PM-6:00 PM and Friday 2:00 PM-6:00 PM.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Support our teaching team by working with children 2 to 5 years old. Candidates must genuinely enjoy being with young children and have an interest in getting to know them well. Teacher responsibilities include:

  • Helping to maintain a child‑centered classroom environment that is inviting, loving, creative and clean.
  • Planning a daily routine that includes play, outdoor time, messy play, art, cooking, singing, reading stories, offering snacking and a gathering circle.
  • Speaking to children with respect.
  • Exhibiting curiosity about children and being joyful in the classroom.
  • Being emotionally present to support children in their relationships, if they are unwell, and exhibiting empathy.
  • Creating a safe environment.
  • Exhibiting good judgement.
  • Supervising children at all times, including snack times, rest periods, diapering/restroom times, play times, and activity times.
  • Knowing all health and emergency policies of the program and being ready and willing to implement them if necessary.
  • Helping with general housekeeping tasks.
  • Maintaining appropriate communication with staff, children, and families at all times.
  • Performing miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
  • Interacting with parents at pick up time, signing children out for the day.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING (Qualifications)
Must-Haves
  • High School diploma and child care experience; progress towards a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field is a plus.
  • Ability to build warm relationships with children and families.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and reflective teaching skills.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Passion for music, movement, arts, gardening, cooking or other interests to share with children.
SALARY & COMPENSATION

Part Time Floater Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 3:00 PM-6:00 PM, Friday, 2:00 PM-6:00 PM

Salary: $20 per hour
