Job summary

City and Country School in Manhattan's West Village seeks a Lower School Floater to support diverse classrooms and assist in curriculum development. The role reports to the Division Director and helps foster growth in language, literacy, math, and social-emotional development through collaborative planning.

The position is full-time, in-person, five days a week, with collaboration across teachers and specialists to uphold an equitable learning environment and strong family partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with elementary-aged children.
  • Experience developing and revising curriculum with an integrative approach.
  • Willingness to work in close collaboration with colleagues and children.
  • Familiarity with project-based, experiential teaching.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion.

  • Communicate effectively with families, students, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Provide curriculum updates to Learning Specialists and support ongoing education as needed.
  • Model professional behavior during teacher-led activities and lessons.
  • Support morning and afterschool programming as assigned.
  • Attend weekly Staff Meetings.

LOWER SCHOOL FLOATER (FLOATING TEACHER)
Job Description

The Floating Teacher or “Floater” reports to the applicable Division Director and is an integral part of the classroom support team. They assist group and associate teachers at all levels in fostering child mental, cognitive, academic, language, and physical growth as well as assist in curriculum development. Floaters are allocated to varying classrooms where a variety of needs present themselves, and the job varies consistent with necessity.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Group Teacher in encouraging lifelong thinking and exploration for students through various open-ended materials; blocks, paint, clay, paper, wood, sand, and water.
  • Assist the Group Teacher in developing, revising, and teaching of school curriculum.
  • Collaborate with Group Teachers, Specials Teachers, Specialists, and Division Heads to find ways to integrate instruction with other curricular subjects, namely social studies.
  • Assist the Group Teacher in maintaining an equitable and inclusive learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively and establish strong working partnerships with families, students, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Assist the Group Teacher in providing curriculum updates to Learning Specialists in supporting ongoing education as needed.
  • Assist the Group Teacher in teacher-led activities and lessons, and models outstanding professional behavior.
  • Support morning and afterschool programming as assigned.
  • Attend weekly Staff Meetings.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Education or related field , Master’s degree preferred
  • Prior teaching experience and/or professional field experience is a plus
  • Developmental knowledge of and experience with elementary aged children
  • Experience developing and revising curriculum with an integrative approach
  • Willingness to work in close collaboration with colleagues and children
  • Willingness to work in different groups and levels of the school as needed
  • Familiarity with project-based, experiential teaching and lesson development
  • Commitment to creating a culture of equity and inclusion
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

This position has a salary range of $53,572 - $58,208 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This full-time bargaining unit position is in-person five days per week at the school’s campus in Manhattan’s West Village.
