Job summary

Mercy South Float Pool is seeking a Nursing Student Tech-PRN to support patient care under supervision. You will assist with fundamental nursing tasks, participate in a busy, multi-unit environment, and help maintain patient safety and comfort.

As a student, you’ll gain exposure across Orthopedics, Med/Surg, Telemetry, ICU, and ED while meeting the rest requirements and maintaining good standing with your nursing program. This role offers flexible shifts and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an approved nursing program and pursuing Nursing Tech responsibilities under supervision.
• Basic patient care duties performed within scope of nursing student role.
• Must maintain good standing with school while in this role.

Responsibilities

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma, G.E.D. and enrolled in an approved or accredited nursing program.

Prior to employment, the nurse tech shall provide student transcripts indicating they have completed Fundamentals of Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and provide competency skills list from their learning institution.

The nurse tech must remain in good standing with their school of nursing while in this role.

This program is for nursing students only, if a student leaves a program for any reason, they can no longer be a nurse tech.

Certifications:

BLS Required within one month of hire.

Preferred Experience:

EMT, Paramedic or Previous Patient Care Experience.

Physical requirements/demands:

• Push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
• Prolonged standing and walking each shift
• Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties

Minimum PRN Requirements:

• 3 shifts within 6-week schedule period
• one of which being a weekend shift 1 major and 1 minor holiday

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
