Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of Position: Under supervision, provides professional nursing care within the designated acute care facility as a Float Pool Nurse, serving patients in the following approved specialties: Emergency Department (Adults), Emergency Department (Pediatrics), Inpatient (Adults), Critical Care/Telemetry (Adults), Medical‑Surgical (Adults). Performs nursing methods and techniques such as health teaching, counseling, and supportive care while ensuring optimal resource utilization and compliance with applicable regulations and nursing standards of care.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Identifies and discriminates between physical and psycho‑social signs and symptoms and selects appropriate therapeutic measures for effective nursing regimen.
• Develops, implements, and continuously evaluates the nursing regimen for assigned patients.
• Records and maintains nursing care plans and progress notes to ensure continuity of care.
• Interprets and reports patient responses to appropriate members of the health team.
• Participates with interdisciplinary health team members to plan comprehensive patient care programs.
• Determines and assigns nursing tasks that may be carried out by allied nursing personnel.
• Provides teaching, guidance, and direction to allied personnel, ensuring a highly‑prepared nursing pool team through orientation on H+H processes, policies, and departments.
• Participates in defining, implementing, maintaining, and interpreting standards of nursing practice.
• Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary conferences, committees, task forces, and research projects related to the Float Pool.
• Determines conditions, resources, and policies essential to delivery of nursing care services.
• Participates in development and maintenance of a system of evaluation of nursing care, practices, and procedures, including evaluation of nursing personnel.
• Interprets the philosophy and objectives of the System and Nursing Department to patients, families, and other groups.
• Maintains professional competence through continuing education and other learning experiences.
• Performs other professional nursing activities as directed by nursing service administration.

Minimum Qualifications

• A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
• One (1) year of clinical nursing experience in the specialty area in which assigned to float.
• A valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
