Job summary

Birmingham Gastroenterology Assoc is seeking a FLOAT Medical Assistant to work under direct supervision in a busy clinical setting. You will perform administrative and clinical tasks, maintain patient flow, and support physicians with exams and patient education.

The role requires familiarity with EHR systems, strong communication, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Travel to satellite locations may be required.

Qualifications

• Current certification (CCMA) or (CMA) preferred.
• Previous experience in medical field, physician office experience required.
• Familiarity with insurance preferred.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of Electronic Health Records and Processes.
• Typing speed of 35–40 wpm.

Responsibilities

• Multitasking, organization with emphasis on department teamwork.
• Answer phones and schedule appointments and procedures, complete precert forms.
• Demonstrate computer skills in EHR including scheduling, acquiring medical files and emailing.
• Arrange outside referrals for the physician.
• eRx prescriptions to BGA pharmacy for physician.
• Coordinate with hospitals, medical facilities and testing labs.
• Attend continuing education, HIPAA, OSHA seminars offered by BGA.
• Assist physician with exams as needed.
• Patient education and follow up.
