Responsibilities

As a Medical Assistant Float at Dignity Health Medical Foundation clinics, now part of CommonSpirit Health, you will ensure smooth daily operations for patients and the clinical team. Your role involves proactively preparing patient charts, ensuring all information is obtained and current for those seen in our facility. You can expect to manage multiple patients daily, depending on the number of physicians on-site.

Daily activities include:

1. Assisting in preparing patients for examinations or procedures, assisting with procedures, relaying instructions from physicians, and collecting patient data.
2. Administering medications as directed by physicians and performing accurate vital sign measurements and documentation.
3. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment, and supporting patient care services under the supervision of physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, or licensed vocational nurses.
4. Managing medical records, including charts and EMR systems.
5. Communicating and documenting patient concerns to healthcare providers.
6. Collaborating with physicians, insurance providers, and pharmacies to obtain medication authorizations, including refills.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program or military training equivalent, as determined by Dignity Health Medical Foundation HR and the State Division of Allied Health Professions.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 coding, pharmacology relevant to Medical Assistants.
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least six months of outpatient Medical Assistant experience.
• Certification through approved agencies such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, American Medical Certification Association, California Certifying Board of Medical Assistants, or NCCT.
• Familiarity with electronic practice management systems.
