Job summary

Opportunity Resource Services (ORS) seeks a College Access Advisor to help rural Texas high school students prepare for college, careers, and life beyond graduation. This role offers a flexible, part‑time schedule that supports mentoring, teaching, and meaningful guidance.

Hours are 8–10 per week at Alvarado High School, Alvarado, TX, with occasional Saturday field trips. Responsibilities include tutoring on FAFSA, Apply Texas, scholarships, test prep, and ongoing mentoring to build

Qualifications

• Associate degree required or equivalent.
• Experience providing college readiness services, tutoring, or teaching preferred.
• Demonstrated academic excellence (high GPA).
• Knowledge of FAFSA, Apply Texas, and Scholarship applications.
• First‑generation college student or low‑income background is a plus.
• Experience with Socratic method for tutoring preferred.
• Previous TRIO experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Address college readiness topics: college navigation, applications, financial aid, study habits.
• Provide support, advice, and tutoring using Socratic method.
• Follow up on tests, tutorials, and character development; prepare for the future.
• Offer online advisement and tutorials as needed.
• Monitor student behavior during after‑school programs, field trips, and workshops.
• Establish positive mentoring relationships and address student challenges.
• Assist with program operations: contacting missing students, writing encouraging notes, organizing supplies.
• Attend meetings and trainings and complete paperwork on time.
