Montgomery-Public-Schools is seeking a Custodian to maintain cleanliness and safety across classrooms, offices, and facilities in Livingston, AL. You will perform routine cleaning, floor care, toilet/sanitary fixture upkeep, and assist with building security at day's end.

The role emphasizes reliability, ability to lift up to 40 lbs, and adherence to safety procedures. Eligible for benefits, this hourly position may transition to full-time in 2027–2028.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass ALSDE criminal history background check
• Knowledge of tools, materials and methods for resurfacing and shampooing floors
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform overhead tasks
• Ability to read, write and follow written or oral instructions
• Ability to provide friendly and courteous service to students, faculty and the public
• Ability to climb ladders or scaffolds and move furniture and textbooks

Responsibilities

• Responsible for keeping all classrooms, offices, and equipment cleaned and sanitized
• Vacuums, spot cleans and deep cleans floors as needed
• Disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans fixtures and drinking fountains daily
• Cleans corridors after school each day as needed
• Reports needs for repairs promptly to the Custodial Manager
• Reports immediately any damage to the school to the Custodial Manager
• Closes the building on days worked and ensures doors/windows are secured and lights off (except for safety)
• Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required
• Complies with laws/procedures for disposal of trash and maintains health/safety standards for cleaning chemicals
• Adheres to rules and performs other related duties as assigned
• Maintains a professional appearance while on duty
• Additional skills may be required as the position transitions to full-time in 2027–2028
