Job summary

Elk River Area ISD 728 is seeking an AVID Tutorial Facilitator to support AVID students. Hours vary from 1–6 per day, 2 days per week, with a wage of $17.00 per hour.

The role involves guiding students toward academic excellence under the supervision of the AVID Instructor and contributes to a dynamic district that values collaboration and college readiness. Position is available across district buildings with varying hours.

Qualifications

• High School graduate; preferably enrolled at a 4-year college or university and a graduate from the middle or high school where they are employed as an AVID Tutor.
• Ability to become thoroughly grounded in AVID strategies (WICR: writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading).
• Ability to role model the importance of learning and achieving academic success.
• Ability to meet regularly to discuss student progress; must be on time and prepared at all times.

Responsibilities

• Conduct tutorial sessions that underscore collaborative learning and the practice of students teaching other students through discussion of class and text notes.
• Determine concepts to focus from student tutorial worksheets, notes, and discussions.
• Work with students in any phase of the writing process: brainstorming, clustering, read arounds, revision, and editing.
• Reinforce the idea that learning extends beyond studying to long-term accomplishments.
• Assist students in any subject area, be familiar with textbooks and AVID resources.
• Evaluate student binders, including calendars, notes, and logs.
• Assist in teaching study skills and college preparation.
• Set a positive tone and atmosphere in the AVID classroom.
