Job Description:

Job Title: Production Line Lead

Department: Hy-Vee Beverage Mfg.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function: Partners with Production Supervisor in leading production line in overall daily center operations and directs labor with a strong focus on safety. Assists in establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products. Responsible for maintaining equipment and the cleanliness of the facility.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Production Supervisor

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with production plans and operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products from start to finish.
  • Assists with the scheduling and delegation of tasks to employees appropriately to meet production operations goals while minimizing labor hours and overtime.
  • Assists with implementing and drives a Lean culture with special focus on SMED, quick change over studies and implementation, and waste management.
  • Collaborate with maintenance department to develop and execute plans to improve productivity.
  • Partners with FPQA assuring all monitoring and verification activities are performed and turned in a timely matter.
  • Provides food safety and on-the-job training for all employees.
  • Required use of safety equipment and complying with proper safety procedures.
  • Required to complying with GMP’s, maintaining proper sanitation and housekeeping in all areas.
  • Ensure compliance to plant policies and Federal and State regulations including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and SQF standards.
  • Send out reports as needed to required personnel.
  • Adheres to company policies and individual center guidelines.
  • Complete necessary production and shift paperwork.
  • Maintains good communication with other departments.
  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.
  • Maintains a positive attitude; creates an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork.
  • Review, code and approve material/parts invoices for accounts payable.
  • Ensure compliance to plant policies and Federal and State regulations including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and SQF standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

  • Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills.
  • Grace under pressure.
  • Experience with managing people.
  • Ability to solve problems and identify misunderstandings while adapting to changes throughout daily operations.
  • Knowledge of current OSHA guidelines and other safety regulations.
  • Must have the ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems and with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages and have basic computer skills.
  • Lean manufacturing experience is a plus.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in managing others, preferably in a high-speed production environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities (Direct Reports):

Responsible for instruction, assigning work, reviewing work, planning work for others, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, and acting on employee problems. Manage department workload to manpower and resources to effectively balance department costs and overtime with Commissary needs and improvements. Recommend employee disciplinary action as appropriate.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to be on feet (standing and walking) for 8-12 hours a day.
  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Must be able to work long hours at times under extreme temperatures.

Working Conditions:

  • Fast paced work environment and will require some pressure to meet deadlines.
  • The duties of this position are performed mostly in the production area
  • Working directly with employees, technicians and vendors.

Computer, iPads, pallet jack, forklift, telescopic forklift, box cutter, knives, trash compactor, cardboard compactor, calculator, telephone, and manufacturing machinery
