Job summary

Ameren Missouri is seeking an Automotive Mechanic for an hourly position in Missouri. You will perform repair and maintenance on a range of automotive and power-take-off equipment, oversee tasks, and ensure safe operation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved automotive maintenance program preferred; two years in an automotive maintenance facility or equivalent.
  • Five years in an automotive maintenance facility will be considered in lieu of the program.
  • Must be able to interact with people, work alone, and maintain physical endurance.
  • Must qualify for a chauffeur’s license and have a valid CDL with HazMat endorsement.
  • Must pass all required testing for this classification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair and maintenance on automotive and power-take-off equipment.
  • Direct the work of others as needed and overhaul motors, transmissions, and differentials.
  • Repair brake systems and align vehicle front ends; repack bearings and service cooling, fuel, and electrical systems.
  • Perform welding and minor body repairs; install crew-cab glass and service suspensions and tires.
  • Respond to service calls and ensure safe, efficient operation of equipment.

Our service area covers 64 counties and more than 500 communities including the greater St. Louis area.

Position Details
  • Position: Hourly
  • Hourly Rate Range: $43.43 - $52.65
  • Revision Date: 10/21/2022
  • Hours: PM rotating 4‑10; First week Monday‑Thursday 3:30pm‑2:00am, next week Tuesday‑Friday 3:30pm‑2:00am, thus having a 4‑day weekend every other weekend.
  • Shift: Owl shift Tuesday‑Friday 9:00pm‑7:30am. Shift starts Monday 9:00pm and last day is Friday morning 7:30am, with no reporting back until Monday 9:00pm.
Responsibilities
  • Under direct but not constant supervision, perform a general range of repair and maintenance work on automotive equipment, construction equipment, and power‑take‑off driven equipment.
  • Repair garage equipment as required; direct the work of another Automotive Mechanic or Fleet Services employee of lesser grade.
  • Overhaul motors, transmissions, and differentials; analyze motors.
  • Overhaul and adjust brake systems.
  • Repair, overhaul and align vehicle front end and steering systems.
  • Repack, adjust or replace bearings.
  • Repair and overhaul fuel systems, cooling systems, and electrical systems.
  • Perform welding.
  • Make minor fender and body repairs, paint or touch up.
  • Make modifications on equipment as required.
  • Install crew‑cab glass.
  • Repair or replace suspension systems, tires, balance wheels.
  • Replace or repair components of construction equipment and power‑take‑off driven equipment.
  • Maintain small powered equipment.
  • Attend garage gasoline service station as required; make service calls.
  • For proper care and use of tools, materials, and shop equipment, for responding to calls quickly, and for restoring equipment to service in a minimum of time.
  • For working with precision when making close adjustments, for close careful inspection and adjustment of equipment to protect operators and equipment.
  • For following safe working practices.
Working Conditions

Exposed to outside weather conditions; must dress for inside and outside work; subject to irritations from gas, oil, solvents, fumes; and to damp and drafty conditions.

Hazards

Subject to skin abrasions; eye injury from foreign particles; hazards of carbon monoxide gas; hazards of working under and around equipment; street and highway traffic.

Candidates who cannot perform some or all of these duties because of a disability will nevertheless receive full consideration for the job based on their ability to perform the essential functions.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or successful completion of a recognized high school equivalency examination.
  • Successful completion of an approved educational program in automotive maintenance or its equivalent preferred; shall have satisfactorily performed for two years in an automotive maintenance facility in a repair technician classification or its equivalent.
  • An additional five years of satisfactory performance in an automotive maintenance facility in a repair technician classification will be considered in lieu of completion of an approved educational program.
  • Must be able to meet and deal with people, be willing to work alone for considerable periods, be active and able-bodied and have average physical strength and endurance.
  • Must be a competent operator of equipment and be able to qualify for chauffeur’s license.
  • Must successfully complete all testing requirements related to this classification.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid class (A) C.D.L. license with HAZMAT endorsement.
Compensation and Benefits

Hourly pay ranges from $44.73 to $54.23 USD depending on step, with an additional annual incentive payment based on company performance subject to management discretion.
