Job summary

Town of Chapel Hill is hiring a Fleet Technician I to diagnose, repair and maintain a range of vehicles and equipment used by municipal services. You will enter work orders, review repairs, and keep service records while supporting customer inquiries and daily operations.

The role requires at least 1 year in an automotive shop, a high school diploma, a valid NC driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a CDL Class B within a year. Work is in a shop environment with some on-call duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 year automotive shop experience for Fleet Technician I.
• Valid NC driver’s license; CDL Class B required within 1 year of hire.
• Ability to use fleet management software and basic office tools.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair and perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Enter work orders, review repairs and maintain service records.
• Maintain documentation and respond to inquiries; provide customer service.
• Operate and use fleet management software and manuals.
• Be on rotation for after-hours emergencies and weather events.
