Job summary

Chapel Hill Transit in Chapel Hill, NC seeks a mechanic to maintain and repair a diverse bus fleet. In this role, you will diagnose issues, replace engines and electrical components, inspect and service systems, and perform preventive maintenance across multiple departments.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for an associate/trade diploma and at least 1 year of mechanic experience. CDL B with P or ability to obtain within six months is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate or trade diploma preferred.
• Minimum of one year as a mechanic; strong diagnostic abilities.
• CDL B with P endorsement or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Perform tune ups, oil/filters, electrical checks, drive train, brake and A/C repairs.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and engine diagnostics with handheld/computerized tests.
• Carry out NC State inspections and ensure safe shop operations.
• Read blueprints/schematics; communicate findings clearly in writing and speech.
• Maintain safe, professional work area and support team as needed.
